This page covers the questions that come up across every part of MimikTrader — brokers, copying behavior, risk, and billing. Each answer links to a full article if you want the complete picture.
Brokers & Connections
Is my broker supported?
MimikTrader connects to Tradovate directly, and to NinjaTrader accounts that are brokered through Tradovate — you connect with your Tradovate credentials either way. ProjectX is also supported. Rithmic is coming soon. See Supported Brokers & Platforms for the full picture of what's live today. See Supported Brokers & Platforms.
Does copying work when my computer is off?
Yes. MimikTrader runs in the cloud and maintains its own connections to your broker — it doesn't rely on a browser tab, a desktop app, or your computer being on. As long as your broker connections are authorized and healthy, copying continues in the background.
How Copying Works
Does my leader account change when I copy trades?
No. The leader account is mirror-only — MimikTrader watches the leader's fills and replicates them to followers, but it never places, modifies, or cancels anything on the leader account itself. You keep trading the leader exactly as you always have.
How is a follower's position size decided?
Every follower has a sizing multiplier. A follower's order quantity is the leader's quantity multiplied by that follower's multiplier, rounded up, with a floor of one contract — so a follower always trades at least 1 lot when a trade copies. See Position Sizing for the exact formula and worked examples. See Position Sizing.
Do trades from TradingView copy to my followers?
Yes, as long as those trades execute on your connected Tradovate account. MimikTrader copies based on fills at the broker, not on the platform you used to place the order — if a TradingView-triggered order fills on your leader's Tradovate account, it copies the same as any other fill.
Can a copy group have more than one leader?
No. Each copy group has exactly one leader account and one or more follower accounts. An account also can't be both a leader in one group and a follower in another at the same time — each account belongs to a single group. See Setting Up Copy Groups.
What happens if a follower is disconnected when the leader trades?
That trade is not queued and replayed once the connection comes back — missed trades are not caught up automatically. The leader keeps copying normally to every other connected follower in the meantime. See Follower Position Doesn't Match the Leader for how to safely resync a follower afterward. See Follower Position Doesn’t Match the Leader.
Risk & Closing Positions
Can I always close my positions, even during a risk lock?
Yes. Closing, reducing, and flattening are never blocked by risk limits, account locks, or the symbol whitelist, on any account in any state. This is a core rule, not a plan feature — you can always get out of a trade. See Auto-Flatten and Account Locking for how locks work. See Auto-Flatten and Account Locking.
What happens when an account hits a risk limit?
The account moves through two stages automatically: first it switches to closing-only (no new opening trades, but existing positions can still be closed), then MimikTrader flattens every open position at the broker, then the account locks. You don't have to do anything — it happens on its own. See Auto-Flatten and Account Locking for the full sequence. See Auto-Flatten and Account Locking.
How do I stop copying instantly?
Flatten the position first — closes are never blocked, so this always works immediately. To stop future copying, disable the follower or pause the copy group. Removing a follower or disabling a group stops new trades from copying to it; it does not automatically close any position already open, so flatten first if you want to be fully out.
Plans & Billing
What's the difference between Starter and Pro?
Both plans copy trades. Pro adds the risk management suite (daily/weekly limits, trailing drawdown, auto-flatten and locking) and advanced reporting — the trading journal and analytics. Starter is capped at 5 broker connections and 5 copy groups; Pro is effectively unlimited on both. See Plans, Billing & Trials for full pricing.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — a 7-day free trial on either plan. A card is required upfront to start the trial; if you cancel before the trial ends, you are not billed. See Plans, Billing & Trials for exact pricing and how billing works after the trial.
