Can't Log In or Locked Out?
Work through the most common sign-in and access problems, symptom by symptom.
5 min read
"Locked out" can mean a few different things — a wrong password, a 2FA hiccup, a subscription that lapsed, or your trading account being risk-locked (which is not the same thing as being locked out of MimikTrader at all). This article walks through each symptom, what it actually means, and what to do about it.
Wrong Password
What it means
The email and password combination you entered doesn't match what's on file. This is the most common sign-in failure and usually has nothing to do with your subscription or account status.
What to do
Use the "Forgot password?" link on the sign-in page. You'll get a reset link by email that expires in 30 minutes — request a fresh one if it expires before you use it. Full steps are in Account Access & Security.
2FA Code Not Working
What it means
Your authenticator app's 6-digit code is being rejected. This usually means the code expired before you entered it (codes rotate every 30 seconds) or you no longer have access to the device with the authenticator app installed.
What to do
- If the code just expired, wait for the next one to generate and try again — don't reuse an old code.
- If you've lost access to your authenticator app entirely, use one of your 8 backup codes instead. Each backup code works once.
- If you've lost both your authenticator app and your backup codes, contact support — see below for what to include.
Subscription Lapsed
What it means
Your trial ended or your renewal charge failed, and your card was not successfully billed. When this happens, access to the trading features locks until payment succeeds.
What to do
Go to the Billing page and update your card. Once a charge goes through successfully, access is restored. See Plans, Billing & Trials for how the trial-to-paid transition and cancellation flow work.
"My Account Is Locked" — Risk Lock vs Login Lock
What it means
This is the most common point of confusion. A risk-locked trading account (also called closing-only) is not the same thing as being locked out of MimikTrader. A risk lock means one specific broker connection was switched to closing-only by a risk rule — no new opening trades will copy to it, but you can still fully sign in to MimikTrader, see your dashboard, and manage every other part of your account.
What to do
If you can sign in but see a locked or closing-only status on one of your accounts, that's a risk-management event, not a login problem — see Auto-Flatten and Account Locking for exactly what triggers it and how to review or unlock it. If you genuinely cannot sign in at all, the cause is one of the other three symptoms on this page, not a risk lock.
When to Email Support
If none of the above resolves it, email support. To get a fast answer, include:
- The email address on your MimikTrader account.
- What you see when you try to sign in (the exact error or behavior).
- Whether you have 2FA enabled, and whether you still have your backup codes.
- Approximately when the problem started, with your timezone.
