Tradesea SecureCopy vs Third-Party Copier (When Built-In Isn’t Enough)

Date-stamped 20 Aug 2026. If every account you care about already lives inside Tradesea, fits the documented group and multiplier caps, and same-direction mirroring is all you need — staying native is often the right call. You do not owe a subscription because a blog said “cloud.”

Do you even need a third-party copier?

This is the decision page: Tradesea SecureCopy (built-in, server-side copy on Tradesea’s Rithmic path) versus a third-party / external copier class. Same frame as Tradovate Group Trading vs a trade copier, and TopstepX native copier limits.

MimikTrader is not officially approved by Tradesea or any firm. No pass or payout guarantees. Confirm each firm’s rules and verify in sim before you size anything.

  • Same native-vs-external frame: Tradovate Group Trading vs a trade copier
  • Same “when built-in ends” frame: TopstepX native copier limits

The short version

If the left column still fits, keep SecureCopy. If you already live on the right, a weekend sim bake-off is cheaper than another messy multi-gateway day.

Stay on SecureCopy versus look at a third-party copier
Stay on SecureCopy if…Look at a third-party copier if…
Every account you need to mirror is a Tradesea-connected account you ownYou need Tradovate, ProjectX, or mixed gateways in the same map
3 groups / 10 followers / 3× covers the bookYou outgrew those documented caps
Same-direction size scaling is enoughYou need a map that is not “whatever Tradesea can see”
You are fine that saving copy settings clears follower PDLL / PDPT and position risk bracketsYou want per-account daily/weekly limits, trailing drawdown, auto-flatten/lock that you configure on the copier
Server-side copy inside Tradesea is the whole jobYou want copy that is not tied to one front-end’s account universe

What SecureCopy is (official help)

From Tradesea’s SecureCopy help (article dated 10 June 2026): SecureCopy is Tradesea’s built-in copy trading. It copies a leader account’s trades to follower accounts on Tradesea’s servers, so copying keeps running even if your Follower tab is closed or inactive.

Native here is not a Windows agent you babysit — it is server-side inside Tradesea. The third-party question is “does my whole book live in Tradesea?”

An older Copy Trading article still exists (Settings → Copy Trading). Numeric limits and the PDLL note live on the SecureCopy page — treat that as current; re-check live help if the UIs diverge.

Reverse / hedge copy is not a documented SecureCopy mode. Tradesea’s hot keys include Reverse Position on the account you are trading — not “copier hedge.” Those millisecond values are retry windows, not a fill-quality claim.

  • Leader → followers in real time, including flatten, exit position, and cancel orders
  • Copy Protection: if a terminal action on the leader is not replicated, the system retries inside a selected window — 250 ms, 500 ms, or 1000 ms (Tradesea’s documented retry windows, not a Mimik latency claim)
  • Follower multiplier: 1× to 3×. Direction always matches the leader; only size changes. Help example: leader buys 2 lots, follower at 3× takes 6
  • Caps: 3 copy groups per trader, 10 followers per group, 3× max. Each group has its own leader (L1 / L2 / …)
  • Pause keeps the setup; rename the tab; delete the group (accounts stay intact). Setup: Trade Station top bar → Copy trading → leader → followers → multipliers → Save
  • Save clears any PDLL / PDPT and Position Risk Bracket settings on the followers
  • Official SecureCopy help: help.tradesea.ai — Tradesea SecureCopy
  • Older Copy Trading article (treat SecureCopy as current for limits): help.tradesea.ai — Copy Trading
  • Related: Daily Loss & Profit Limits (PDLL / PDPT; Liquidate or Liquidate and Block): help.tradesea.ai — Daily Loss & Profit Limits
  • Related: Position Risk Settings: help.tradesea.ai — Position Risk Settings
  • Reverse Position is a hot key on the account you are trading, not SecureCopy hedge: help.tradesea.ai — Hot keys

Tradesea is a Rithmic front-end — not Tradovate

This is the wedge people miss when they search “Tradesea copier” next to “Tradovate Group Trade.”

Tradesea’s Connect Account flow: pick your prop firm from the list, then enter Rithmic username, Rithmic password, and simulation vs live. Tradesea’s partnerships page describes onboarding to Rithmic market data and OMS/RMS. Lucid’s supported platforms list Tradesea under Rithmic, not under CQG / Tradovate.

So SecureCopy copies Tradesea-connected accounts. It is not Tradovate Group Trade, and it is not a cross-gateway copier. A Tradovate login, a ProjectX login, and a Tradesea/Rithmic login are not one native mirror — the same wall Group Trade hits on same-provider-only grouping, and TopstepX native copy hits when the book leaves TopstepX.

Partner firms on tradesea.ai/partnerships are Tradesea’s list, not a Mimik roster or approval. The list changes. If your firm is missing in Account Centre, Tradesea’s help says it may not be enabled yet — ask the firm.

  • Tradesea Connect Account (Rithmic credentials): help.tradesea.ai — Connect Account
  • Tradesea partnerships (Rithmic onboarding — Tradesea’s list, not a Mimik roster): tradesea.ai/partnerships
  • Lucid lists Tradesea under Rithmic, not CQG / Tradovate: Lucid supported platforms
  • Same-provider wall on Tradovate native grouping: Tradovate Group Trading vs a trade copier
  • Same wall when the book leaves a native front-end: TopstepX native copier limits

FLAG — cross-firm inside SecureCopy

Official help does not say whether two partner firms can share a copy group. Use the checkboxes. Do not assume Firm A + Firm B will tick.

When native is enough vs when it isn’t

Look past SecureCopy when the book left Tradesea (Tradovate, ProjectX, or mixed gateways); when you hit 3 groups, 10 followers, or 3×; when you need follower risk that copy-setup does not wipe; or when you want a leader → follower map that is not one front-end’s account list — or you already run a cloud copier for the rest of the book.

Official note: Save clears PDLL / PDPT and Position Risk Brackets on followers. Confirm current Tradesea behavior in sim, then decide whether a copier-side risk suite is the job. (Mimik Pro, FAQ/Plans wording only: daily/weekly limits, trailing drawdown, auto-flatten/lock per account. Not a Tradesea feature claim.)

Native SecureCopy is for eligible accounts inside Tradesea. Needing a third-party tool for other gateways does not mean Tradesea failed you — the built-in product’s scope ended.

  • The book left Tradesea. Tradovate, ProjectX, or mixed gateways. Cross-gateway is a different problem.
  • You hit 3 groups, 10 followers, or 3×. Documented product caps, not a firm “blocking you.”
  • You need follower risk that copy-setup does not wipe. Official note: Save clears PDLL / PDPT and Position Risk Brackets on followers.
  • You want a leader → follower map that is not one front-end’s account list, or you already run a cloud copier for the rest of the book.
  • Cross-gateway is a different problem: Copy trades across Tradovate, Rithmic, and ProjectX

Native vs third-party (category)

Firms still enforce drawdown, daily loss, consistency, and news rules. A copier risk suite does not replace firm risk. Software cannot override TOS.

Pattern A, B, and C

Pattern A — All Tradesea, inside the caps → stay native. Partner-firm Rithmic logins already connected in Tradesea. Use SecureCopy, keep sizing conservative, watch the save-clears-risk note, verify in sim. Revisit when a Tradovate or ProjectX seat shows up, or when a fourth group would help.

Pattern B — Multi-firm / multi-login that SecureCopy cannot see → external class. Firm A on Tradesea/Rithmic + Firm B on Tradovate (or ProjectX). Trade one leader; size followers with multipliers. Confirm each TOS; sim first.

Pattern C — Cross-gateway stack → external class. Tradesea/Rithmic + Tradovate + ProjectX because firms route differently. Pick a copier that documents each connection type, then verify firm policy. MimikTrader documents Tradovate, Rithmic, and ProjectX (NinjaTrader only when Tradovate-brokered). Tradesea is not a Mimik platform name. A Rithmic seat uses Mimik’s Rithmic connection — still your TOS, still not a Tradesea partnership.

Where MimikTrader fits (facts only)

MimikTrader is one cloud futures trade copier in the external class — not the only option, not “official” anything. As of 20 Aug 2026:

Cross-gateway copy inside 5 connections / 5 groups? Starter may be enough. Need risk isolation (one account trips; others stop opening)? That is the Pro wedge — still no pass guarantees.

  • Cloud futures trade copier; no VPS required
  • Brokers today: Tradovate, NinjaTrader (Tradovate-brokered), ProjectX, Rithmic
  • Tradovate connects via OAuth — Mimik never stores your Tradovate password
  • Copy groups: exactly one leader; the leader is mirror-only (Mimik does not place, modify, or cancel on the leader)
  • Starter — $29/mo: copy-only; up to 5 broker connections; up to 5 copy groups; multiplier sizing; no risk suite; no journal
  • Pro — $49.99/mo: unlimited connections/accounts; risk suite; journal/analytics; TradingView webhook strategies; about 25% off yearly
  • Risk suite (Pro), FAQ/Plans wording: daily and weekly limits, trailing drawdown, auto-flatten and account locking, configured per account
  • Trial: 7-day free trial, card required, cancel anytime. Not a signal service; no eval-pass or payout guarantees
  • Does not claim Tradesea — or any prop firm — “officially approved” the product. Topstep Live (funded) is not supported
  • MimikTrader homepage (trial path for supported connections only): mimiktrader.com

Sim-first bake-off checklist

If Pattern A still fits, keep SecureCopy. On B or C, bake off over a weekend.

  • Does the Tradesea Copy trading picker see every account I intend to mirror?
  • Am I inside 3 groups / 10 followers / 3×?
  • After Save, did I re-check PDLL / PDPT and position risk brackets on followers?
  • Do I need Tradovate, ProjectX, or another gateway in the same map?
  • Per-account flatten/lock while other followers keep trading — native or copier-side, and did I prove it in sim?
  • Reject/disconnect — do I notice before the next entry? All-in cost vs native (+ VPS if any)? TOS still green? Tiny sim size for a full session first?

FAQ

Is Tradesea SecureCopy a Tradovate copier? No. Tradesea uses Rithmic credentials. SecureCopy mirrors Tradesea-connected accounts. Group Trade is a different native tool.

Does SecureCopy copy to Tradovate or ProjectX accounts? Official help describes leader/follower accounts inside Tradesea. It does not document copying out to Tradovate or ProjectX. Treat mixed-gateway books as an external-copier job, then confirm each TOS.

What are the official SecureCopy limits? Per Tradesea SecureCopy help: 3 groups, 10 followers/group, 3× max. Direction always matches the leader. Re-check live help.

Does enabling SecureCopy clear follower risk settings? Yes, on save. Official note: Save clears PDLL / PDPT and Position Risk Bracket settings on followers. Re-read that page and PDLL / PDPT before assuming follower daily limits survive. This page does not tell you how to reconstruct them.

Can SecureCopy reverse or hedge-copy? Not as a documented copier mode. Direction always matches the leader. Reverse Position is a hot key on the account you are trading — not SecureCopy hedge.

Can I mix two prop firms in one SecureCopy group? Unclear from official help. The article never promises cross-firm groups. Use the live picker. Do not assume Lucid + Tradeify (or any pair) will tick together.

Is MimikTrader approved by Tradesea or my prop firm? No. Independent software. Firm and platform names are compatibility context only.

Can MimikTrader guarantee I pass an eval or get a payout? No. Not a signal service. No eval-pass or payout guarantees. You own the accounts. Verify in sim.

Starter or Pro if I outgrew SecureCopy? Starter ($29/mo) for copy across up to 5 connections and 5 groups. Pro ($49.99/mo) for unlimited connections/accounts, the risk suite, journal/analytics, or TradingView webhook strategies.

Soft next step

If Pattern A still fits, keep Tradesea SecureCopy. If you already hit cross-gateway, cross-login, or per-account risk walls, stress-test MimikTrader’s 7-day free trial (card required, cancel anytime) only on supported connections. Keep whatever wins. Still sim-first. Still TOS-first.
